A new chapter for ChessMonitor: a partnership to shape the future of chess preparation and analytics.
October 19, 2025
ChessMonitor is entering a new chapter. Grandmaster Anish Giri is joining the company as co-owner, marking the beginning of a new partnership aimed at building the leading platform for chess preparation.
Anish Giri is one of the very best chess players in the world, currently ranked number 7 globally. Just last month, he won the prestigious FIDE Grand Swiss tournament and secured his place in the Candidates Tournament 2026 as only one of eight players worldwide.
Anish had been a customer of ChessMonitor for a while. At one point, Anish and Thomas (the developer behind ChessMonitor) exchanged ideas and feedback on product features and the broader vision for chess preparation tools. Over time, their discussions evolved into a deeper collaboration, and it became clear that forming an official partnership was the next step.
In August, Anish and Thomas met in person to discuss the company’s vision and outline the necessary legal arrangements. The legal process is still ongoing in parts, with Anish Giri set to acquire 50% of the company’s shares soon, resulting in equal ownership between the two partners.
With Anish Giri joining as co-owner, ChessMonitor continues to pursue its goal of becoming the leading platform for chess preparation. The partnership will accelerate the development of new tools and features aimed at providing comprehensive analytics and preparation resources for players at all levels. Users can expect enhancements to existing features as well as entirely new capabilities designed to make ChessMonitor an essential part of chess preparation and study.
Behind the scenes, Anish and Thomas have been working on something exciting: the ChessMonitor app. This will be the biggest step forward for ChessMonitor yet. We’re not ready to reveal everything today, but the first screenshots will be coming in the next weeks. We can’t wait to show you what we’ve been building.
ChessMonitor is one of the biggest online chess databases hosting hundreds of millions of chess games from Chess.com and Lichess in addition to over 10 million games from over-to-board and tournament games.
